Flowers on Sunday & The Lobster I Won!

One of the best things about summer is the profusion of sunflowers everywhere. I think they are just the cheeriest of flowers.  Although not necessarily the most sophisticated, they are quite complicated, as their seeds are coiled in the Fibonacci sequence, which is as follows:

\theta = \frac{2\pi}{\phi^2} n,\  r = c \sqrt{n}

where n is the index number of the floret and c is a constant scaling factor.8-31 019

How can you not be cheered by such happy flowers? Their variety is vast, ranging from some of the smaller brown and yellow heads7-11 001 to the all yellow fuzzy Teddy Bear cultivars.7-11 002 As we were walking through the market, we saw the seafood vendors who always have a quiz question posted. The reward is usually just the satisfaction of knowing the answer, but today’s question actually had a prize. 7-11 007 Yes, that’s a lobster! And a live one at that. The guys bundled him in a paper bag, and Julie and I took him along to have breakfast with us. Little does he know that he will be lunch for my mother and me!

As for the quiz question, they wanted to know which state has the most lighthouses. You have to answer the question as you’re standing there, so no i-phone use!  The first person who answers correctly (without consulting outside sources) wins a prize!

More later on the auction I attended yesterday!

  1. What was the answer? I'm guessing Maine, only because next to Paris its my favorite place to be!

  5. MICHIGAN! With all of those great lakes come lots of lighthouses! Don't ask me how I pulled this little fact out of my brain at 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday with barely a half a cup of coffee consumed!

  6. I just want to say... Paul's comment hadn't been published when I answered, so I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to jack someone else's answer! ;)
    Glad you won your lobster, though!
