I’ll TakeThis… Satchel

I am a total bag-hag! I love all sorts of bags, from tote bags to lovely leather handbags. I recently started carrying a great field bag from Filson, which I can sling cross-wise and carry my camera, phone, wallet, Moleskine diary, lippy and more. Debois Textiles 121
When I saw these Harris Tweed field bags today on India Knight’s Posterous, I just fell in lust! The bags come in a range of sizes, shapes, tweeds and tartans.

Each has the famous Orb Mark, denoting it as authentic Harris Tweed. HarrisTweedLabel At £70.00 for the tweed field bag, it’s not too much!

  2. I actually have a Harris Tweed bag that I bought about a million years ago in Scotland. It's lovely, but now this makes me think I want another!

  4. OH MY! I'm so with you - I have 50,000 bags - well, not quite, although my husband would say I do have 50,000! These are fab! They remind me of the Barbour bags (which I am a total sucker for!!!!)

  6. Love those. I'm a total bag lady (!) too. Besides collecting them, I am always designing new ones in my mind.

  7. Though I'm not really a Harris Tweed kind of gal, I love cross-body bags. They are so convenient and so sensible and so secure. But it's hard to find ones that are pretty, elegant, lightweight, not klutzy, not hippie-ish, small profile -- I'm always on the look-out for them.

Funny thing about bags, though -- for years (like 20), I only ever carried one purse: the same plain black shoulder/cross-body, with every outfit, for every season, to every event. I got it for 9 bucks at a Liz Claiborne outlet store. It was the perfect size and profile, with two handy little outside front pockets that made it easy for me to grab my train ticket or Metro card while both hands were still free. It was perfect.

Also, I had sworn I'd never be the kind of woman who raced around every morning trying to find her stuff from one purse to put in another one, ad infinitum.

But, of course, it looked kind of lame with a springy, flirty, feminine dress, or something with diaphanous fabric, or just anything that didn't go with black (fake) leather.

Anyway, I had an epiphany about three years ago and said to myself, I'm a grown-up, I should be able to figure out how to accessorize (same thing happened with jewelry).

So now I've become that kind of woman. I went from having 1 purse, to having about 20 -- all color-, fabric-, style-coordinated. It's insane. And I sometimes run around frantically looking for my wallet, my change purse, my lipstick, my train ticket, my whatever, from one purse to another. Ah, life!
