What Fresh Hell Is This???

Just when you think that things are going along swimmingly, a shark arises from the water and begins nibbling at your feet.  sharkPrior to moving to Wales, I lived in my house for ten years. And now, I’ve lived in my wee house since I moved back from Wales. Between these two houses, I moved five times, so was glad to settle down.10-4 033I just got word that the house where I am living is being sold. This is pretty much bad news, but as ever, I am determined to see the good side of things. Quite possibly, it will take a long time to sell. I can stay until it’s sold, but I haven’t decided yet. Regardless of what happens, the earliest I will have to move is the first of the year. Picture 004I am going to launch my Etsy shop and start selling things to begin clearing out items that I’ve accumulated since I came back from Wales. Overall, this will be a good thing for a number of reasons. I will keep you posted.

P.S. Thanks to everyone who nominated me for a Kreativ Blogger award. I really appreciate it, Corinthian Column, Soodie Beasley and Victoria Art!

  1. meg, as i said in an earlier email- thought the of moving makes me ill (just because of my sheer volume of stuff), but i forgot to add that the thought of CHANGE makes me excited! so i'm glad you are seeing this as the opportunity it is! with rents having dropped everywhere, i'm sure you'll get even better value for your dollar. and yes, clearing out the excess inventory before you have to, is a great idea too. you are two steps ahead.

i can tell this will be an example of 'when one door closes, another door opens', and your new door is going to open on a fabulous new home for you and connor!

  2. I'm with M. Moving is a pain, but I bet it is all for the best.

  3. Dear Meg, what news for you!
    Don't let the sharks bite....
I hope you'll get around the new idea of moving somewhere new and may it be exciting and rejuvenating! Here is to new beginnings!
Such pleasure to give you the award!

  4. I'll bet you'll find an even cuter, better place in Pigtown. Love the new leaf header...think of this as a new leaf for you to turn over.

  5. Oh dear Meg, that sucks. It is awful to have to move when it isn't your own doing. I have moved a lot too. From the time I moved away from home at 18 until 3 years ago when we bought this house, I had moved 14 times in 18 years. I count my temporary summer apartments in there, where I moved for jobs in various cities, but after getting my degree 13 years ago, I have still moved about 5 times. I hate it, but I am very good at it. And it is a great excuse to get rid of clutter (which I no longer accumulate as much of either).

Good luck and hope you find a smashing new place. And let us know about your Etsy shop!

    xo Terri

  6. The moving part is not fun, and neither is the uncertainty about where home is, but we all wish you a permanent place with great details, great neighbors and a park next door. Could be a dog walking neighborhood interviewing opportunity as well, since Connor should approve the neighborhood. Well wishes for Connor.

  10. Other than my childhood home, I have lived in this one longer than any... 10 years. I confess, there are times when I wax nostalgic of my single days. Moving every 2 to 3 years, fresh paint in the closets & pantries (things you never get around to doing once you've lived somewhere for awhile... though it needs it), and of course, the purging. It will be hard and stressful but oh! the excitement of new beginnings! You have a great attitude, good things will come of this!

  11. Well, be sure to set some ground rules for realtors so that Connor is not bothered during all of this.

  12. Oh Meg, so sorry. What a pain.
Our first rent house after we moved to NH was for sale and after we bought this house we thought we could safely stay there through this rennovation, as the RE market had really tanked and it had been on the market for years.... well, the house surprisingly sold and we were panicked. My point is keep and eye out for your new place, and don't assume this won't sell because stranger things have happened to us;);)!
And Kathleen is soooooo right- set down ground rules immediately and IN WRITING. (this became an issue for us, so I strongly encourage this) If possible get a '24 hour' showing notice, and state the hours they can call you between 8- 6pm (otherwise they'll be calling at 9pm) Also, and a big ALSO.... if you don't want random strangers walking through your things in an 'Open House' (hate, hate, hate open houses- and you never know when some zealot realtor is going to want to have open houses every weekend...)state NO open houses from the beginning. I would read and know your rental agreement. Don't mean to scare you just want you to be prepared, as we were not and paid the piper....
Fingers crossed you & Conner find a fabulous new place soon!

  15. Connor is one very big factor for the showings of the house. His nickname is Houdini, and he'll take any chance to bolt! So if I have 24 hours, I can put him in doggie day care.

  16. MEG-

One door closes another opens...and the next move will be great. Not wonderful that it is not your choice, but life is bounteous and you are brilliant.

    Great good luck.

  19. Oh Meg!! :( I'm sorry to hear you have to move... I think selling off some of your things though will make you feel good & maybe your new place will really end up inspiring you more.

    big hug,

  20. Damn. And good luck. And all will be well. Isn't that an odd combination of comments? But I mean all of them, fully and deeply.

  21. Dorothy Parker, definitely.
And I don't know if she was referring to moving house when she made that comment, but I do know that she moved a lot!

I hope that you find an even better nest. xx

  22. Just when you finally got your big map hung. Bummer. Someone deep and smart once said that "attitude is everything". I'm sure your very good one will get you through this just fine.

  24. You'll come out on top!

Whenever Mrs.E. and I up stakes, the first dinner in the new place is ordered in pizza and a good bottle of Champagne. "The Sacred and the Profane" we call it, and the thought of it always cheers me up on moving day.

Here's to finding that beautiful neighbourhood. Cheers.

  25. 819 Woodward is up for rent ... it is very nice and the previous renters had 2 dogs so the landlord must be good about pups.
