Wedgwood in an Ikea World

Another interesting take on the recent news about Waterford/Wedgwood is in this article from the Times of London. Take a look.
The ironic thing is that Josiah Wedgwood was a huge innovator and self-promotor, two things that the current company was lacking.

  1. Absolutely true. Another good article in today's WSJ about the collapse. One regular business piece and then, on C10, an appraisal.

  2. When I heard the news, I was so depressed...as you know I love my Wedgwood. But, I think that the company has not stayed current...not the way Royal Copenhagen has. They need a young designer to come in and breath fresh air into the old designs.

  3. To think that I, and everyone I know for that matter, started our adult lives with the Wedgwood plain white "starter pack". This is one of the few "new" things I do buy.

Looks as if I'll need to throw something else in the heat of the moment.

  5. i second janet- they really need fresh blood in their line. i LOVE wedgewood's jasperware, particularly in black (collected it for a bit) and think it could be so fabulous if it were updated to be more modern.

  6. A good friend gave me an antique set of Wedgwood for Christmas. It has been handed down through the family, but she and her husband thought it "suited me" more than them. I was ... shall we say...gobsmacked. And feel even luckier with this current news!

  7. The Times article is very interesting, and I had no idea about the Charles Darwin connection. Is this demise (of Wedgwood) the "natural selection" process of his Theory of Evolution (Ikea over Wedgwood)?!
