Michael Phelps

This is the historic theatre, just down the road from where Michael lives. Yes, we are very proud!
I just want to give a shout to fellow Baltimorean, Michael Phelps, who is going for a record eight gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Summer Games. My niece swims at the same club where Michael got his start and loves the idea that they swam in the same water!

Pete's Grille, where you could find Michael eating a huge breakfast after his morning practices, is just around the corner from the Book Thing.

One down, seven left!
Two down, six left!
Three down, five left!
Four down, four left!
Five down, three to go!!!
SIX DOWN, TWO TO GO!!!!
SEVEN DOWN... ONE MORE TO GO!!!

DONE!!! EIGHT GOLD MEDALS!!! HOW INCREDIBLE!

YAY Michael!!!!!

  3. I bet he's not eating them this weekend. Wonder why? :)

I hope I don't get yelled at but I really am Michael Phelps'd out. I had a boss with an unhealthy obsession with the Phelpsmeister so for an entire year every time I went by his office - hell, every time I went to work - it was "Michael this, Michael that, Michael Michael Michael". Lots of photos posted everywhere of Michael in his Speedo (not that sleek, new body suit). Sure, Michael Phelps looks good and yes, he IS an awesome athlete. But it gets tiring to have him thrown in your face every single day for a year!

I'm just sayin' - and now I'm done. Good luck, Michael and the rest of our Maryland athletes! Here's hoping he breaks that Mark Spitz record.

  4. I managed to see his win last night. NBC had a funny bit where they played his mother's screams, cheers, and exhortations from the sidelines. She sounded very Baltimore.

John, heh! Your boss's obsession sounds very unhealthy.

  5. Julie... I saw the race, but missed the medal ceremony. Mrs. Phelps certainly does sound like a Baltimorean, hon!

  7. Mrs. Phelps is definitely a laocal. She's a principal at a local middle school from what I understand.

  13. KDM... don't know if there are any Marylanders on the E-team. I always thought that Michael Matz was great-looking!

Three kids we know from our area competed in the Olympic trials... we were very proud of them... one a girl named Gretchen Jaques only just turned 15 qualified fo trials... write that name down... and look for her in 4 years! She has a good shot!

  15. He made Six golds at the 2004 Olympics. Seven golds at the 2007 Worlds. Michael Phelps will enter eight races in Beijing within reach of multiple records, including most career Olympic golds (9) and most golds at a single Games (7).

And now Phelps wins 400m, takes gold and breaks his own world record in the 400m IM.

Would he takes 8 Gold medals this time?

  17. I was a competitive swimmer as a kid and it has been such a thrill to watch Michael Phelps. Baltimore must be sooooo proud. And just a few minutes ago, Ryan Lochte, our local favorite and the pride of Daytona Beach, won his first gold. Oops - gotta go to watch Phelps again! Go USA!!!
